Q & A / Question & Answer Q What type of class & test are right for me?
A The original Food Safety manager class & test is better if you:
1) are new to professional food safety
2) are an auditory learner or like a combo of auditory and visual
3) learn better with class interaction and examples
4) want our pass the test guarantee
Q How long does the class and test take? A You should allow yourself the whole day. The class time varies depending on class size and teacher student interaction during our instructor lead power point presentation. The class portion averages 5 - 6 hours, so we provide a working lunch during class. We take a few short breaks during the class. Following class we set up to proctor the test. You have two hours to complete the multiple choice paper test which averages 80 questions. Most people take between 1 to 1 1/2 hours to complete it. Your certificate will be mailed to you in approximately one week. Class starts at 10:00 am and most people are done testing between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
Q Do I need a study book?
A Most people that have English as a first language do not need to pre-study by book. However, if you are new to food safety and opt for the Kiosk you may want to pre-study as well. The book is also nice to have as a reference for questions on the job and to use as a training tool for your food handlers. You can purchase a book on-line, pick one up at the school, or in our classroom day of class.
Q Who will my certification be through? A National Registry of Food Safety Professionals. NRFSP is one of the three nationally accredited associations approved to certify Food Safety Professionals.
Q What do I do when I receive my certificate?
A After you receive your certificate, take it to your County Department of Environmental Health to get your FSM card.
Q How long is my certification good for?
A Depending on each county your certification is good for 3 to 5 years.
Q What if I move to another county or state?
A Your national certification through National Registry of Food Safety Professionals is good for 5 years, so just take your certificate to the local health department and get a card for their county.
Q What do I bring with me to class?
A
1) Valid picture ID of the following types: State Drivers License or ID card, Passport, Employment Authorization or Alien Registration, or Military ID.
2) Paper and pen to take notes. You must put all personal items away including your notes prior to the test.
Q How should I dress for study & test?
A Dress comfortably. Layers are good. If you tend to get cold in air conditioning bring a sweater or long sleeved shirt. If you easily get warm wear a short sleeved shirt. Generally it comfortable for most in a short sleeve shirt or blouse.
Q Can I bring food, drinks, and snacks?
A Yes. We have a refrigerator & microwave for your use. There is also a drink & snack vending machine in our break room for your convenience. You are provided lunch.
Q Can I eat & drink during the class?
A Yes eating and drinking is aloud. Just be courteous to other classmates.
Q What language can I take the test in?
A The test is given in English and Spanish unless you pre-order it in another language. Tests are available in seven languages. Please allow time for the tests to be ordered.
Q What if I have a food safety question later?
A We are available to our students for consultations and to answer any food safety and compliance questions you may have in the future. If we don't know we will find out or refer you to an expert that does.
Q What if I was visited by the Health Inspector? A If you were told by an inspector that you or your staff need to complete training for non compliance of licensing certificates or violations, we will contact them and let them know you are enrolled in a class & test as soon as you have enrolled and paid. Please let our staff this is needed. We have a very good rapor with enforcement. Usually as long as you are enrolled and have proof of enrollment in an upcoming class you will be in compliance when the health inspector comes back. DO NOT MISS A CLASS THAT IS SCHEDULED FOR THIS REASON.
